This drawing is in reference to my Day 5 post.
Christmas 1965 my Grandma (Kirkbride, my Mom’s side of the family) traveled from her home in Akron to spend Christmas with ours in St. Clairsville, Ohio. It was a heavy snow day, so Dad drove to Akron after work to pick her up. She arrived long after we’d gone to bed and, of course, she came with presents for me, my sister, and my brother (2 siblings had not yet been born).
My favorite Grandma gift that year was a Marx Toys toy set called “Fighting Knights and Vikings.” I had seen one a couple of weeks earlier during our family’s annual trip to tour Akron’s department store Christmas displays. She noticed my interest and I heard her quietly ask my Mother, “Would he like that?” (Of course, I would!) She gave me a second, similar Marx set 2 years later.
I still have pieces and figurines from both sets. This front piece of the castle is from the second set.
